It's officially (but not
officially) winter now; in Australia folks say the seasons change over on the 1st of the month rather than waiting for the solstice or the equinox. An Australian told me it's a holdover from the convict era, when they would change their uniforms on the first day of the season and therefore needed a set date that wouldn't vary from year-to-year. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but we have winter on June 1st, spring beginning on September 1st, summer starts on December 1st, and autumn rolls around on March 1st.
It sure feels like winter enough in Armidale, it doesn't get a whole lot colder than -6° C/21° F around here, which is what it was yesterday night. We never would have guessed that our house in an Australian winter would be just as cold (if not colder) as our house in Idaho during the winter! I hope you're all enjoying appropriate June weather in the northern hemisphere!

| Frost in the front yard. |

| The narcissus didn't like the frost and wilted completely. |

The iris keep their northern hemisphere calendar and started blooming about a month ago. |

The outdoor faucet drips a little bit sometimes and made an ice stalagmite. |
