Quick stop in Ballina

We have always liked stopping in the little town of Ballina, although
we've never stayed for very long.  This stop took us to the beach and
the lighthouse before continuing on our way.
The long roots of the adan/screwpine! With roots like these,
it's obvious why they're well-suited to the coast.
Shelley Beach
More adan/screwpine growing along the wall.
Typical tall coastal trees of this area
The view of the Byron Lighthouse from an overlook just north of Ballina
That peninsula is the most eastern point on the Australian mainland.
It's also a popular place to catch thermals. We've always seen hang gliders and
paragliders from this particular overlook (and birds as well)
