New England National Park
We made our way over to New England National Park last weekend, taking up a recommendation to go to Point Lookout. Driving in we weren't too impressed ... the road was a bit hard for the poor Berlingo, and we both thought "well, probably not coming back here again.." That is, until we got to the top and walked out to the lookout. The sight was breathtaking.
From the lookout we hiked down alongside the cliffs and through the temperate rainforest. Overall the hike was amazing, but a bit strenuous. It was very steep, with lots rocks to step down, more strenuous than we've done lately. The rocks and cliffs are really interesting, again makes me want to learn more about the geology of this area.
Didn't see very much wildlife except some lyrebirds and a couple currawongs, a crimson rosella or two. The trails we took eventually led us back up out of the temperate rainforest and back into the eucalypt forests, which was really interesting to see the two on the same hike (and the nearly instantaneous division between the two.) We saw a lot of wildflowers we'd never seen before on these slopes, and heard a couple snoozing rocks. (Seriously, it sounded like the rock was breathing heavily and/or snoring. It was... really quite strange.)
Not too many pictures, unfortunately, the camera battery died halfway through. But next time (because I'm sure we will, in fact, return) we'll be a bit more prepared. There's camping and cabins in this park, and it'd be really something to catch Point Lookout at sunrise. This ... only golden yellow and orange, which sounds good to me.
