The Blue Hole at Oxley Wild Rivers National Park

We have never been entirely sure what the "Blue Hole" refers to at the Gara Gorge area of the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park.  Gara Gorge is the closest park and bushwalk to Armidale, about a twenty minute drive to the east of town.  We have heard from locals the "Blue Hole" is both the lake near the picnic area, as well as a hidden swimming spot along the river (a spot you would have to hike to get to), but on our last visit we happened to meet someone who said the entire area is called the Blue Hole.  Whatever it is, however, it has never looked particularly blue any time we've been there.

The drive to-and-from the Blue Hole is the typical open and rocky pastureland of this area, but striking in its starkness.
