Over the Central Plateau

Leaving the rolling, pastoral hills of the Kentish area

The drive over Tasmania's Central Plateau is really quite beautiful.  This particular highway up past the Great Western Tiers and driving south along the western edge of the Great Lake is one of the least traveled highways in all of Australia.  There's so little traffic it's not even sealed/paved for stretches at a time.

The first lookout at which we stopped.. the first of many.
Amazing dolomite of the Great Western Tiers!
The highway's a twisting and turning mountain road..
..until it reaches the top of the plateau
The yellow part of the road is unsealed.  (Can you imagine a major
highway in the US being a dirt road?)
